Has there been an impact?

Has this journey made an impact on the tamariki in Miromiro? Are we able to use our ipads independently in reading time to enhance our learning? Can the tamariki manage themselves independently?

Our inquiry has been a learning experience for everyone in Miromiro. We have learnt, adapted, up skilled and had fun along the way! We now have the skill set to work on a variety of fun, engaging  and meaningful independent tasks during reading time. Tamariki are able to create animations, practice their fluency in an imovie, access their digital group reading box tasks, complete a digital reading log and more… I am so impressed in the way the tamariki have learnt new digital skills and are able to use these skills to showcase their learning. Keeping a step ahead of them can be tricky!

At the beginning of the year when I started this inquiry I was unsure how it would look and also where to start.  I quickly realised that I had a lot of learning to do and that it is a work in progress and that's ok! I worked backwards and listed all the areas that I wanted the children to be able to do independently. Then figured out how to get it done. With Meryn’s support in teaching the digital skills to the tamariki I was then able to create tasks using  these skills in  reading time.

It is now the end of Term 3 and I feel happy at where we are at. We are using the ipads as a tool to enhance learning, create meaningful tasks and also support the children to manage themselves and their time.  What I hadn't considered but has been an awesome bonus is that using the ipads as a tool has meant that all tamariki are able to access the learning. In particular using the talk to text function is a great example of this.

Where to next? I am committed to maintaining the momentum and keeping learning fun, engaging and relevant to all learners in Miromiro.
